Introduction

Mark Buddy is a Chrome extension that helps you organize your bookmarks using smart categories. This policy explains how your data is handled — in short, your data stays entirely on your device.

What Data Is Collected

Mark Buddy does not collect or transmit any personal data. All functionality runs locally within your browser. The following information is stored only on your device using Chrome's built-in APIs:

  • Your bookmarks (titles, URLs, folder structure)
  • Categories you create
  • Your associations between bookmarks and categories

Data Handling & Storage

  • No data is sent to any server — not even ours
  • No analytics, tracking, or telemetry is used
  • The developer (or anyone else) cannot access your data
  • Data is stored using Chrome's secure local storage APIs
Any exporting of data (e.g., to .txt or .mrk formats) must be initiated manually by you. No automatic transmission occurs.

  • bookmarks To read, organize, and manage your bookmarks
  • storage To save your categories and settings locally
  • activeTab To get the current tab info when bookmarking
  • contextMenus To provide right-click options for easier use

Security

  • Your data is never transmitted over the internet
  • All data remains on your local device
  • We rely on Chrome's built-in security mechanisms to protect your information

Your Control

  • You can export your data manually
  • You can clear stored data via Chrome settings
  • You can uninstall the extension at any time
